| Melvin carried the M-79 for 3 months and M-16 the remainder of his tour. Melvin is married to Joyce and has a daughter Kimberly. Melvin was wounded on December 10, 1969 while on an ambush patrol. A total of 19 men were wounded that night 2 died. The patrol was hit my numerous RPG rounds and small arms fire. Melvin said the two M-60 machine gunners saved their lives that night. Melvin received the Purple Heart, CIB, Army Commendation Medal and many more Vietamese Commendation Medals |
